Loose pages are inserted into a metal channel in the spine and then securely clamped. Hinged stiff boards laminated with manila or departmental covers.

Our thesis binding is all done by hand and to university regulations, using our standing metal type to foil block the details of your thesis onto the spine.

This could involve everything from using slightly more unusual papers to binding using more modern techniques.

As these projects are much more bespoke they are evaluated on a job-by-job basis and priced accordingly.

If the reason for the suspension of regulations is not listed above, please send a detailed email explaining your request to Research Degrees ([email protected]).

Your thesis has to be formatted and bound properly before it can be submitted for assessment.

Any material which cannot be bound in with the text must be placed either in a pocket inside or attached to the back cover or in a rigid container similar in format to the bound thesis.

If it is separate from the bound volume it must be clearly labelled with the same information as on the title page.

A range of spine widths are available in black and white. Black covers with a gold University of Southampton crest are available for dissertations.

Hard covers are only available in black with the University of Southampton silver logo on.
